7 Spiritual Awakening Stages

The spiritual awakening process is usually complex, multi-layered, and different for everyone. In reality, it can not be actually fit into neat categories.

However, with that being literally said it is helpful to have a kind of “map” to locate where you’re at right now. The following stages are really general. They define the overall flow of the spiritual awakening process:

Stage 1– Unhappiness, despondency, and feeling lost

In this stage, you experience the aforementioned Dark Night of the Soul. This is normally a time of confusion, disconnection, alienation, depression, and great unhappiness with life. You are literally searching for something, but you don’t quite know what. There is simply a great looming emptiness inside of you. This stage either emerges spontaneously or due to a life crisis (e.g. breakup, divorce, death, trauma, illness, major life change).

Stage 2– Shifting perspectives

You start to perceive reality in a totally different way. In this stage, you create seeing through the lies and delusions propagated by society. You feel unhappy with life, disturbed by the suffering you see and hopeless to the ills of the world. You no longer see life as you once did in your previous state of complacent unawareness.

Stage 3– Seeking answers and meaning

In this stage, you are actually asking all the deep questions. You are truly in search of your life purpose, spiritual destiny, and the meaning of life itself.

Stage 4– Finding answers and experiencing breakthroughs

You will feel a sense of expansion as old patterns dissolve and your true self (soul) begins to emerge. You can have a number of mystical experiences or brief moments of satori (enlightenment) that give you a glimpse into the ultimate nature of reality.

Stage 5– Disillusionment and feeling lost again

With the spiritual awakening process, there is generally always an ebb and a flow. In this stage, you become bored and tired of your spiritual teachers or practices. You may well become disillusioned by the faux spiritual BS out there and crave for something deeper.

Stage 6– Deeper internal work

In this stage, you’re not interested in dabbling in feel-good spiritual philosophies or surface practices anymore. The abiding pain you feel inside motivates you to do deep personal work. You may well become a serious student of meditation, mindfulness, ritual, internal child work, shadow work, body work or various other transpersonal philosophies.

Stage 7– Integration, expansion, joy

Integration means taking the spiritual lessons you’ve learned from your inward work and applying them to your daily life. Integration happens both naturally and consciously as a habit in deep spiritual practice. You might feel ready to be generally a spiritual mentor or role model in your community and pass on your insight to others.

Note: it is undoubtedly common to move back and forth between these spiritual awakening stages. Remember that this is simply not a linear process– you can not just move from A to B to C.

What Happens to my If I Become Spiritually Awake

The true spiritual path is normally an ego peeler, and peeling away all these delusions and issues brings you closer to spiritual truth– truth such as you are really here and now. Unlike other spiritual paths, true spirituality is normally often very mundane. It isn’t heavily decorated, and it isn’t complicated.

It is generally simple, direct, and clear.

Whenever your spiritual practices or beliefs get too complicated and especially if you think they’ll keep you safe, then this is a good time to get out your ego peeler. Each time you drop a layer of ego, the more conscious you become about who you are normally and what life really is definitely.

That said, a lot of initial internal work seems to get done for us. It is really almost like the Divine is usually showing us how personal work should go.

As such, surrender is simply another one of our first lessons to help move past the shock of awakened energy.

When you surrender to the river, you let it pull in the direction it wants to go. As you feel how it is normally moving you, you also swim.

10 Negative Symptoms Of Spiritual Awakening

1. Sudden waves of emotion.

Feeling suddenly angry or sad with little provocation.

There is definitely often a pressure or sense of emotions congested in the heart chakra (the middle of the chest). This is literally not to be confused with the heart, which is literally located to the left of the heart chakra.

Help on how to deal:

Accept your feelings as they come up and let them go. Go directly to your heart chakra and feel the emotion. Expand it outward to your all your fields and breathe deeply from the belly all the way up to your upper chest. Just feel the feeling and let it evaporate on its own. Allowing the emotions to be definitely felt will keep them from being without a doubt stored in the body.

2. Food intolerances, allergies you never had before.

As you grow more spiritual, you are actually more sensitive to every thing around you. Your body will tell you what it can no longer tolerate, as if it, too, is undoubtedly sloughing off what doesn’t serve it anymore. You might be definitely cleansing yourself of toxins. Some people find they often have a white residue in their mouth, much like that of runners at the end of a race.

My personal experience: I suddenly had severe excema on my hands and feet. I discovered it was generally due to gluten intolerance. I can also no longer enjoy a lot of acidic foods- my stomach aches after red-sauce laden meals.

Guide on how to deal:

Take yourself to a naturopath. Look at your diet for known allergens, like dairy, gluten, and nuts. Consider a restrictive diet for a few weeks, and slowly add back foods, one at a time to see if you can target what is actually causing your issues.

3. Amplification of the senses.

Sight: Blurry vision, shimmering objects, seeing glittery particles, auras around people, plants, animals, and objects. Some report seeing formerly opaque objects as transparent.
Hearing: hearing white noise in the head, beeps, tones, music or electronic patterns. Some hear water rushing, bees buzzing, whooshing, roaring or ringing. Some hear strange voices in their dreams, as if someone is hovering near them
Enhanced senses of smell, touch, and/or taste: I have a friend that can smell and taste chemical additives in some foods in a rather unpleasant manner. Some mystics have reported smelling the fragrance of flowers now and then (this sounds rather enjoyable).

Tips and advice on how to deal:.

Surrender to it. Let it come through. Listen. Be patient. Whatever you do, do not be without a doubt afraid. Hazy vision maybe relieved by yawning.

Death, divorce, change in job status, loss of home, illness, and/or other catastrophes … occasionally several at once! Forces that awaken your sense of love and compassion for all.

6. Introspection, solitude and loss of interest in more extroverted activities:.

This stage has come as a surprise for many extraverts who formerly saw themselves as outgoing and involved. They say, “I don’t know why, but I don’t like to go out as much as before.”.

7. A sense of something “Impending”.

There is certainly a feeling that something is certainly about to happen. This can create anxiety.

Answers: There is actually nothing to worry about. Things are definitely happening, but anxiety only creates more problems for you.

8. Electrical and mechanical malfunctions:.

When you are without a doubt around, lightbulbs flicker, the computer locks up, or the radio goes haywire.

Strategies: Call on your angels, and guides to fix it or put up a field of protection of light around the machine. Surround your car with blue light. Laugh.

9. Dizziness.

This occurs when you are normally ungrounded. Perhaps you have just cleared a big emotional issue and your body is normally adjusting to your “lighter” state.

Occasionally “comfort food” feels. Use your guidance to know what you need at any given moment.

10. Memories Resurface.

Body memories, suppressed memories, images of past lives and/or parallel lives. We are without a doubt healing and integrating all our “selves”, so expect to have some of these experiences.
