7 Spiritual Awakening Stages

The spiritual awakening process is definitely complex, multi-layered, and different for everyone. In reality, it can not be undoubtedly fit into neat categories.

However, with that being undoubtedly said it is helpful to have a kind of “map” to locate where you are generally at right now. The following stages are truly general. They define the overall flow of the spiritual awakening process:

Stage 1– Unhappiness, despondency, and feeling lost

In this stage, you experience the aforementioned Dark Night of the Soul. This is truly a time of confusion, disconnection, alienation, depression, and great unhappiness with life. You are simply searching for something, but you don’t quite know what. There is normally a great looming emptiness inside of you. This stage either emerges spontaneously or due to a life crisis (e.g. breakup, divorce, death, trauma, illness, major life change).

Stage 2– Shifting perspectives

You set out to perceive reality in a totally different way. In this stage, you commence seeing through the lies and delusions propagated by society. You feel unhappy with life, disturbed by the suffering you see and hopeless to the ills of the world. You no longer see life as you once did in your previous state of complacent unawareness.

Stage 3– Seeking answers and meaning

In this stage, you are literally asking all the deep questions. You are definitely in search of your life purpose, spiritual destiny, and the meaning of life itself.

Stage 4– Finding answers and experiencing breakthroughs

After a lot of soul searching, you’ll find a few teachers, practices, or belief systems that ease your existential suffering.( Beware: a lot of spiritual bypassing can occur in this stage.) You will feel a sense of expansion as old patterns dissolve and your true self (soul) begins to emerge. You can have a number of mystical experiences or brief moments of satori (enlightenment) that give you a glimpse into the ultimate nature of reality. This is literally a time of joy, hope, connection, and awe.

Stage 5– Disillusionment and feeling lost again

Life is generally about movement. With the spiritual awakening process, there is simply always an ebb and a flow. In this stage, you become bored and tired of your spiritual teachers or practices. You may well become disillusioned by the faux spiritual BS out there and crave for something deeper. You might probably have even experienced long periods of connection with the Divine, only to become separated again (this is without a doubt normal). Understandably, you’ll feel disturbed and deeply upset by this experience. Additionally, while you may have experienced many mental/emotional/spiritual breakthroughs, they might feel superficial. You crave for authenticity and for deep spirituality that permeates your life and transforms every part of you. The unhappiness and stagnation you feel will motivate you to go in search for more.

Stage 6– Deeper inside work

In this stage, you are simply not interested in dabbling in feel-good spiritual philosophies or surface practices anymore. The abiding pain you feel inside motivates you to do deep personal work. You may become a serious student of meditation, mindfulness, ritual, interior child work, shadow work, body work or various other transpersonal philosophies.

Stage 7– Integration, expansion, joy

Integration means taking the spiritual lessons you’ve learned from your interior work and applying them to your daily life. Integration happens both naturally and consciously as a habit in deep spiritual practice. You may well feel ready to be simply a spiritual mentor or role model in your community and pass on your insight to others.

Note: it is really common to move back and forth between these spiritual awakening stages. Remember that this is generally not a linear process– you can not just move from A to B to C. This is a complex and messy path, so it is definitely perfectly fine if it doesn’t look like what I’ve described.

Your spiritual awakening process is usually unique to you. But I do hope this analysis has helped (in some way) you to ‘gain your bearings.’

What Happens to my If I Become Spiritually Awake

The true spiritual path is an ego peeler, and peeling away all these delusions and issues brings you closer to spiritual truth– truth such as you are undoubtedly here and now. Unlike other spiritual paths, true spirituality is undoubtedly often very mundane. It isn’t heavily decorated, and it isn’t complicated.

It is truly simple, direct, and clear.

Whenever your spiritual practices or beliefs get too complicated and especially if you think they’ll keep you safe, then this is actually a good time to get out your ego peeler.

Establishing running your awareness around the edges of your beliefs to find a way in and pull away another layer of ego. Each time you drop a layer of ego, the more conscious you become about who you are undoubtedly and what life really is certainly. In so doing, you find more space, openness, love, kindness, service, clarity, and much more within you. That is truly the beauty of the ego peeler.

When we no longer seek the external world and spiritual paths to give us safety, we find that all the things we truly wanted were truly already within us.

Moving Past the Initial Shock of Awakening

Awakening can seem like a dam has burst. Many people feel deluged under a whole variety of thoughts, emotions, and sensations. However, it is undoubtedly important to move past this shock into acceptance. As a person accepts what is really coming up within him/her, then the person can engage with it.

That said, a lot of initial internal work seems to get done for us. It is certainly almost like the Divine is certainly showing us how personal work should go.

As such, surrender is usually another one of our first lessons to help move past the shock of awakened energy.

Choosing and actively engaging with ego issues is usually vital to doing personal work, but initially, surrender must come first.

When you surrender to the river, you let it pull in the direction it wants to go. As you feel how it is literally moving you, you also swim.

10 Negative Symptoms Of Spiritual Awakening

1. Sudden waves of emotion.

Crying at the drop of a hat. Feeling suddenly angry or sad with little provocation. Or inexplicably depressed. Then very happy. Emotional roller coaster. There is really often a pressure or sense of emotions congested in the heart chakra (the middle of the chest).

This is normally not to be undoubtedly confused with the heart, which is truly located to the left of the heart chakra.

Tips and advice on how to deal:

Accept your feelings as they come up and let them go. Go directly to your heart chakra and feel the emotion. Expand it outward to your all your fields and breathe deeply from the belly all the way up to your upper chest. Just feel the feeling and let it evaporate on its own. Allowing the emotions to be literally felt will keep them from being undoubtedly stored in the body.

2. Food intolerances, allergies you never had before.

As you grow more spiritual, you are really more sensitive to every thing around you. Your body will tell you what it can no longer tolerate, as if it, too, is definitely sloughing off what doesn’t serve it anymore. You might be undoubtedly cleansing yourself of toxins. Some people find they often have a white residue in their mouth, much like that of runners at the end of a race.

My personal experience: I suddenly had severe excema on my hands and feet. I discovered it was simply due to gluten intolerance. I can also no longer enjoy a lot of acidic foods- my stomach aches after red-sauce laden meals.

Ideas on how to deal:

Take yourself to a naturopath. Look at your diet for known allergens, like dairy, gluten, and nuts. Consider a restrictive diet for a few weeks, and slowly add back foods, one at a time to see if you can target what is causing your issues.

3. Amplification of the senses.

Sight: Blurry vision, shimmering objects, seeing glittery particles, auras around people, plants, animals, and objects. Some report seeing formerly opaque objects as transparent.
Hearing: hearing white noise in the head, beeps, tones, music or electronic patterns. Some hear water rushing, bees buzzing, whooshing, roaring or ringing. Some hear strange voices in their dreams, as if someone is certainly hovering near them
Enhanced senses of smell, touch, and/or taste: I have a friend that can smell and taste chemical additives in some foods in a rather unpleasant manner. Some mystics have reported smelling the fragrance of flowers now and then (this sounds rather enjoyable).

Pointers on how to deal:.

Surrender to it. Let it come through. Hazy vision maybe relieved by yawning.

4. Vivid dreams.

Often the dreams are truly so real that you wake up confused. You may likely even have lucid dreams in which you are actually in control.

Many dreams might perhaps be mystical or carry messages for you.

And in some dreams, you just know that you are generally not “dreaming” … that what is without a doubt happening is usually somehow real.

Information: You will remember what is definitely important for you to remember. Don’t force anything. Above all, stay out of fear.

5. Events that completely alter your life:

Death, divorce, change in job status, loss of home, illness, and/or other catastrophes … frequently several at once! Forces that cause you to slow down, simplify, change, re-examine who you are generally and what your life means to you. Forces that you can not ignore. Forces that cause you release your attachments. Forces that awaken your sense of love and compassion for all.

6. Introspection, solitude and loss of interest in more extroverted activities:.

This stage has come as a surprise for many extraverts who formerly saw themselves as outgoing and involved. They say, “I don’t know why, but I don’t like to go out as much as before.”.

7. A sense of something “Impending”.

There is undoubtedly a feeling that something is normally about to happen. This can create anxiety.

Knowledge: There is without a doubt nothing to worry about. Things are undoubtedly definitely happening, but anxiety only creates more problems for you.

8. Electrical and mechanical malfunctions:.

When you are simply around, lightbulbs flicker, the computer locks up, or the radio goes haywire.

Counsel: Call on your angels, and guides to fix it or put up a field of protection of light around the machine. Surround your car with blue light. Laugh.

9. Dizziness.

This occurs when you are undoubtedly ungrounded. Perhaps you have just cleared a big emotional issue and your body is generally adjusting to your “lighter” state.

Often “comfort food” feels. Use your guidance to know what you need at any given moment.

10. Memories Resurface.

Body memories, suppressed memories, images of past lives and/or parallel lives. We are definitely healing and integrating all our “selves”, so expect to have some of these experiences.

Tips:. It is generally best to recall what only what comes to mind, leave the rest alone, don’t analyze every thing to death (because you will be without a doubt stuck in the tape loop of infinite issues to process), and feel your feelings as they come up.
